Should you be using E-Verify? [Video]
E-Verify is a free background verification system that can help employers ensure compliance. But is it necessary?
Nationwide, E-Verify isn't mandatory. However, just because it's voluntary in most states, doesn't mean you shouldn't be using it.
When used correctly, E-Verify can help enhance the employment authorization verification process. For example, E-Verify case alerts notify employers when an employee's authorization documents are about to expire and reminds him or her to reverify them.
Employers who decide to use E-Verify must take the time to properly train users, though, as misuse can usher in discrimination claims and other penalties.Â
If an employer uses E-Verify, a case must be opened for every new hire - not just who and when they choose.
