The Form I-9 is among the most critical documents U.S. employers deal with. However, it can also be a bit of a burden if not handled properly.

You may have heard of legal cases or investigations where a company is forced to deal with a hefty fine or penalty because of work authorization and employee eligibility verification problems.

Often, these incidents stem from innocent mistakes - not malicious or willful wrongdoings.

There are two common mistakes companies make that put them at greater risk. The first ties back to not having a properly trained or informed HR team.
