Beating the summer slump: Finding medical work at any time of year

{"brafton_id"=>"40175711", "type"=>"article"}

With the lazy days of summer fast approaching, medical job seekers may see fewer hiring opportunities, unless they know where to look. Here are a few tips for finding new medical jobs this summer.

Traditional peak hiring seasons

Hiring moves in cycles, and there are certainly times of the year when recruiters are more active, but there are always opportunities for motivated job seekers. From April to June, many organizations are looking ahead to the autumn to fill new positions, according to Monster. July tends to be lighter, but this gives recruiters more time to seriously consider candidates for highly skilled positions. According to the source, hiring typically picks up again in late August and September, but experiences a lull during the holiday season.

In other words, job seekers may see few opportunities in the summer months, but that shouldn't stop you from pursuing your career goals. You'll just need to understand how best to network in the summer.

Professional networking in the summer

Setting networking goals for yourself is a good way to keep your job search on track during the summer months. For example, you could set a goal of applying to five opportunities each week, or scheduling one phone call with a recruiter per week.

Summertime can also provide several opportunities for face-to-face networking. Check out your local resources to learn about networking and charity events. You may just meet someone who can connect you to a useful contact at a local care organization. Likewise, leverage your free time by updating your resume and any public-facing online profiles.

Staying up to date on new opportunities

Today's online solutions make it easier for job seekers to hear about and apply to new positions as they become available. Reading through job descriptions can give you a better idea of what opportunities are available near you, as well as throughout the country.

The days may be longer in the summer, but busy schedules can still get in the way of accomplishing your medical job search goals. To help you stay on top of the research, consider signing up for job alerts on myHealthTalent.com today. You'll get direct updates on new opportunities as they appear.
